My Obsession: Pear Juice

Matthew has yeast in his gut and I've learned from other ASD mommies that pear juice is the least of the "yeast feeders" (as far as juice goes). I send Matthew to preschool with juice for lunch and snacks, so I usually try to send him with 1-2 boxes (depending if it's a long or short day) and a sippy cup of 1/2 juice, 1/2 water for lunch. Let me tell you that pear juice is not easy to come by (unless you buy the Gerber kind in the baby aisle...but I prefer the organic).

We have 3 Whole Foods stores nearby that I frequent for his GFCF foods. Today I hit the jackpot in Fairfax...pear juice boxes! As you can see in the pic, I now have 48 of them...woo-hoo! The last time I went there they didn't have any, and now they don't b/c I cleaned them out! And none of the grocery stores carry pear juice in bottles anymore...what's up with that?! So if you ever see pear juice (any brand), let me know b/c I'm always on the hunt!

Dear Matthew's mom,
Pear juice is great. You may also want to try a nutrition booster, like E028 splash. It comes in a box and looks like a juice box. Instead, it's a hypo-allergenic drink that has free amino acids, free fatty acids, and vitamins and minerals. Many children experience really great changes by adding these to their diet. It doesn't taste like juice in any way, but some children instinctively know that this is good for them.

ROTFLMBO!!!! and I thought I was the only nut who did that (except I do it with the unsweetened almond milk for his cereal) ha ha ha whatever works!

Since my son only drinks water, I use organic pear "earth's best" brand desserts. I also sneak his supplement doses in there and it works wonders too!

Not to butt in where my nose doesn't belong, but FYI, EO28 Splash contains maltodextrin (can be derived from roasted malt) and sugar. Malt is gluten and the sugar will feed the yeast.

A nutritionalist recommended EO28 for my son. Our DAN! doc suggested we not use the product because of my son's yeast problem.

Just my two cents.

I buy the baby pear juice in the baby section. I just bought this pear juice that you have in the picture last week for a camping trip. Man oh man it's like a dollar a box of juice! :)

Wow, what a find! I would love to have those. I shop at several stores and I only ever see the Gerber bottle.

Yep, you are not alone. I've been known to horde those all important items on sale too! The Prince drinks lots of pear juice too. He also likes to eat pears. I love the photo, it gave me a great giggle!

Love,
Katherine

oh my gosh! I thought we were the only ones who stocked up on pear juice - the SAME brand, too! *lol* Yup, we've only found them at Whole Foods. Shame.

The Whole Foods by me has the Knudsen pear juice in glass bottles - nothing else added (thank goodness) - so you might want to check and see if yours has it now.

Also, gerber makes the little juice bottles in organic pear now too.
